Where Silence Becomes Color

I am Anniek Cornelissen (CORNÉA art), a 35-year-old Belgian artist.

From an early age, I have been fascinated by color, imagery, and the rhythms of nature. Music, language, dance, theater, and visual art have always helped me translate feelings into something tangible, and creativity remains my greatest compass.

“Painting is my oxygen … an escape to another world, where my visual voice comes alive and I can truly listen to myself”

Each brushstroke slows the pace of life, giving shape to emotions beyond words. Painting transforms what lives within me into color, texture, and form. Amid jars of pigment, with paint on my hands and drops on the floor, I find stillness….a space for reflection, healing, and fulfillment.

As a mother of four lively children, I spend my days immersed in their energy and imagination. They color my world and continually teach me to see with fresh eyes.

I love rain, wind, and the quiet beauty of imperfection. Besides painting, I deeply enjoy reading and dreaming, cherishing moments of silence where my imagination can wander freely.

“I cherish silence and solitude, for in these moments I can deeply reflect on my work. For me, the creative process matters far more than the final result.”

The name CORNÉA art refers to the cornea, the part of the eye through which light and color enter the world. Just as the cornea forms the window of our vision, my paintings open windows into a poetic experience of nature.

Whispers of Nature and Solitude

In my paintings, I seek a balance between semi-abstract and recognizable landscapes. Inspired by nature, the interplay of movement and stillness, and the quiet power of the horizon, I create works that open space for wonder.

With soft pastel tones, layered color fields, and poetic details, my art invites pause, freedom, and dreamlike serenity…at times enriched with bold, vivid colors. Birds, swans, ducks, and solitary figures often take center stage, embodying silence and connection with nature and with one another. My work not only invites feeling, but also reflection, an invitation to ponder life itself.

My work carries a philosophical undertone and is deeply influenced by life with my four young children, who continually inspire my creative process.

I collaborate with ArtMajeur, Belgian and international auctionsArtPlacer, and present my portfolio in Belgium and abroad to interior design shops (Brussels, Ghent), interior architects, and private collectors. Large in scale and highly poetic, my canvases reveal their full beauty on spacious walls, finished with a professional 3D frame ready to hang.

Art of Quiet Nature and Family Life

For me, nature and art are inseparably connected. Whether alone or with my young family, I spend countless hours outdoors, surrounded by farmland and forests. The rain and wind bring a quiet peace, while the changing seasons, the stillness of the landscape, and the presence of animals continuously shape my creative process.

As a mother of four, I devote many hours each week to my children, sharing countless moments together.

“I try to keep life with four young children as gentle as possible by taking them into my studio every day, giving them the freedom to explore, play, and experiment, and to discover what creativity can mean."

Several times a week, I bring them into my studio, giving them the freedom to explore, play, and experiment … to discover their own sense of creativity.

These shared moments weave their energy into my practice and make my studio not only a working space, but also a living, playful environment. It is a place where each individual can fully turn inward, in silence and in connection with themselves.

My inspiration does not come only from familiar surroundings. When we travel as a family, or with my husband, or when I venture out on my own, I seek to immerse myself in the culture and environment of other countries. I am moved not only by the images, atmospheres, and colors, but also by the art and creations of other artists. These impressions settle within me and become a guiding influence in the work I create.

I want my children to feel that art is an essential part of life: boundless, where the process carries as much meaning as the final result, and where self-confidence grows through trial, change, and discovery.

Daring to see differently,

nurturing wonder,

embracing color,

connecting with yourself,

and accepting the beauty of imperfection,

…these values give art its deepest meaning and make it a vital, joyful presence in our lives.
